Jan 2006:
Outcome of the case against Zeus, in Guysborough, Nova Scotia
Zeus' owners were found not guilty, and Zeus will not be destroyed. The owners had been charged with "owning or harbouring a dog which is fierce or dangerous" based on criteria similar to Ontario's Dog Owners Liability Act. In addition to finding the owners not guilty, Justice Stroud also specifically commented on the vague and unenforceable Guysborough law, and added comments realted to breed specific legislation infringing on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Shelley explains how well her dogs did too: "CH. Eagleswings Song of Songs O' BC (Solomon) was finished this weekend. He took the Breed on Saturday. Our boy Rocky (Barberycoast LeProvocateur) took the Breed on Sunday earning him 5 points.

And the biggest suprise was our little girl, Delilah (Barberycoast My My My Delilah) took the Breed on Friday over her daddy, Rocky, Solomon and another bitch! May 25, 2005: Membership Renewal Reminder!

Apologies for the delay in getting renewal notices out - The preoccupation of fighting Bill 132 in Ontario has been at the forefront.

Due to the Ontario fight, Please be advised that all Directors and Executives are in an acting position until our elections in 2005.

The American Staffordshire Terrier Club of Canada would like to take the time to thank all of its members for their patronage and support during these hard times. With Breed Specific Legislation on the rise in many of our communities, it is vital that owners and admirers of this historic loyal breed stand together.

In July of 2004 the ASTCC hosted the long awaited Amstaff booster at the AKC show held in Calgary, Alberta. The booster was a tremendous success with a record showing of amstaffs from across Canada and the US. The Booster was a great opportunity for many of the members to finally meet in person. Regardless if they were involved showing or just taking in all the beautiful dogs in attendance, it was great to see the members getting to know each other, exchanging ideas and developing new friendships!!

We are proud to launch the new ASTCC website, the site is still a work in progress www.amstaffclubofcanada.ca as we are looking to get feedback and suggestions on things you would like to see added to the new site!!!

As a reminder the ASTCC is a non-profit organization. The members that make up the executive board are volunteers, all profits go towards the positive promotion and education about the breed to the general public. At this time the primary focus of the ASTCC will be to work against Breed Specific Legislation across Canada. As a member of the Banned-Aid Coalition ( www.bannedaid.com ), ASTCC will be able assist and educate the public of the errors in bylaws like Bill 132 implemented recently in Ontario. The general public, media and politicians all have to be educated to why banning any breed is not the answer or a solution to the problem at hand. Ontario may be along way from your home, but in no time at all BSL could surface in your community. Since the Ontario governments inception of Bill 132, more and more politicians from various communities across Canada have entertained implementing similar laws. Many are going about this very blindly without looking at the hard facts about why these laws do not work. The Banned-Aid Coalition has done an excellent job so far in the battle for our rights, to continue they need our utmost support!!
